CVV code and CVC code are card verification numbers on credit cards / CVC / CVV code: (CVV2 / CVC2)
CVV means Card Verification Value, also known as CVC (Card Verification Code), CVC-2 or CVV-2. The CVV code corresponds to an additional three- or four-digit combination of numbers that are printed (not imprinted) on the credit card. For Mastercard, VISA and Diners Club cards, for example, the CVV code consists of the last grouping of 3 or 4 digits printed on the signature strip on the back of the card.
In e-payment, the CVV2/CVC2 code serves as an additional security level for credit card payments. The CVC2/CVV2 code can only be entered by the credit card holder of a Visa, Master or Diners Club card. Online ordering using only the credit card number, name and expiration date is therefore impossible. The code cannot be read from the magnetic strip, nor does it become visible when the front of the credit card is printed. In addition, the code may not be stored or processed, so that the CVV code is queried again for each transaction.
